Categories of testing offered by our laboratory include:
Spectroscopy, such as FTIR, is used to identify plastics, polymers, additives, and fillers. We can custom make FTIR standards in your choice of plastics, enabling you to make your own calibration curves.
Thermal Analysis of plastics using DSC, TGA, and DMA provide information about transition points, weight percentage of plastics, additives and fillers, and viscoelastic properties.
Chromatography analysis provides information on additives in plastics. Separation and measuring the amounts in ppm or identification by mass spectroscopy, GC-FID or GCMS
Rheology measures the viscoelastic properties of plastics and polymers. Most forms can be measured; solids, melts, gels, waxes, pastes, plastisol, fluids, and liquids can all be evaluated by rheology. We make use of rheometers including Rheometric Solids Analyzer, Rheometric SR5 controlled stress rheometer (for plastic melts, gels, and liquids under low shear rate), Capillary Rheometer, and Tinius Olsen extrusion plastometers (to measure high shear rates of fluids, gels, hot melt adhesives and epoxies).
Mechanical and Physical Properties of polymers and plastics are measured using universal testing machines, pendulum testers, durometers, and glossimeters. Tests include tensile properties, flexural properties, compression properties, puncture, shear, coefficient of friction, tear propagation, cling strength, stress relaxation, creep, thickness, cell count, gauge, and density.
